Pickle juice is more useful than it might seem at first. Aside from being a great cure for a hangover, it has a ton of other great uses and applications. But, you can’t afford to buy a new jar of pickles every time you need some pickle juice. Because of that, should learn how to make pickle juice of your own.
In this article, we cover exactly that topic. But, before we can get to that, let’s talk a bit about pickle juice and its benefits.
What Is Pickle Juice?
The phrase “pickle juice” can refer to one of two different things. The first is juice that something has been pickled in, typically pickles though not necessarily. The other is juice that’s made for pickling vegetables, but that nothing has been pickled in already.
Obviously, making the former is possible only by pickling something in it, which is more than a bit time-consuming. So, in this article, we will describe how to make the latter, and you can pickle something in it if you want.
But what does actually go into pickle juice?
Well, most of it is vinegar and water, but it also tends to contain a lot of salt and some other ingredients that differ depending on the recipe. Some spices and vegetables are commonly used, like ginger, mustard seeds and so on. After some vegetables pickle in it, it also contains various nutrients from them. Of course, depending on what’s pickled inside it the constitution is different.
Nothing about these ingredients seems all that special, but pickle juice is still highly praised and sought after. So much so that it’s being sold in bottles! Why is that? Well, that’s the next thing we’ll cover here.
The Uses Of Pickle Juice
Drinking pickle juice has been all the rage recently, and for a good reason – there are a lot of benefits that you can gain by doing.
For starters, the main reason it’s sold in bottles these days is that it’s great as a pre or post workout drink. It replenishes your sodium and potassium levels that you lose during exercise, and it can deliver nutrients to your body incredibly quickly.
It’s also popular with athletes because it helps reduce the occurrence of muscle cramps, due to efficiently hydrating the entire body.
Pickle juice also helps with digestion and promotes the growth of good stomach bacteria and flora. This will help with problems like gastritis, indigestion, constipation and a lot of other stomach troubles that might be bothering you. It even helps with PMS syndromes.
Of course, there’s also the most popular use of pickle juice that’s been around since forever – as a hangover cure. The reason it deals with hangovers well is also that it rehydrates your body incredibly quickly and provides you with a lot of sodium. When combined with lots of water, it’s incredibly effective at removing the haziness in your mind.
However, pickle juice can also be used for a wide variety of other things other than drinking. For example, you can just re-use it to pickle some other vegetables! Not infinitely, but it’s still possible to do it two or three times.
Another popular use is as a marinade for meat or other foods, like boiled potatoes or macaroni and cheese. It can also be used instead of vinegar in various dishes and salads, or even cocktails.
It can even be used to clean copper pans covered in grime that’s difficult to scrape off by hand. You can clean grills with it as well. Hell, it even kills the weeds in your garden if you water them with it.
There are tons of other great uses that we can’t cover here, simply for the lack of time and space, but we believe this is more than enough to convince anybody of the usefulness of pickle juice.
I bet you’re just itching to learn how you can make your own pickle juice! Well, here are a few recipes that you can use.
The 2 Best Pickle Juice Recipes
While all pickle juices contain vinegar, salt, and water in copious amounts, other ingredients are subject to change. There are tons of different recipes out there, but here we will present a few that we like more than any of the others we tried so far.
Apple Vinegar Pickle Juice
Here’s a quick recipe that centers around apple cider vinegar as a key ingredient that gives this pickle juice its zest and distinct taste.
You will need the following:
● 2 cups of apple cider vinegar
● 2 cups of white vinegar
● 4 cups of water
● 2 tablespoons of salt
● 8 garlic cloves
● 4 teaspoons of dill
● 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
Combine vinegar, water, and salt in a large pot and bring it to simmer over medium or medium-high heat on your stove. Then add the red pepper, dill and garlic cloves. Simmer it for another 5 to 10 minutes so the flavors can mix properly.
At this point, it is done, and you should pour it into a container of your choice. This is about just enough for two jars of pickle juice. You should let it cool before drinking it or using it to pickle vegetables.
There you go! Nice and easy! But, if you don’t prefer this variation on the pickle juice recipe, we have another one in store for you.
